Life Coaching Phases

Iterative process of life coaching

Life coaching can be divided in various phases and or steps. We believe the most importants phases are: (1) reviewing life up to now, understanding who you are and what drives you, (2) analyzing and choosing options for the various life areas and defining objectives and actions, and (3) execution of the life plan. Of course life coaching is an iterative process as people change, especially once actively managing their life.

Life coaching and self reflection

A good self understanding is basic to life coaching. What makes you happy, what makes you sad, what are you proud of, what do you reget, etc. ? But also question like what attitudes have helped you and which ones had negative influence?

As the famous Dr. Phil Mc Graw has pointed out 'people do what works'. All behavior pays off in some way. It is important to analyze behaviour and see how it pays off. This is not always easy. Sometimes when we think we know, there are underlying more profound drivers behind behavior.

If behavior is too hard to understand one might decide to ask for help. Especially is this behavior is keeping you from your dreams. Luckily nowadays visiting a psychologist is no longer something to be ashamed of. But a good life coach might also be able to help you with this.

Understanding the drivers behind behavior can enable us to become more effective. We can change behavior that had a negative influence on our life. This can be done by putting the thinking process on paper and re-program our mind by repetition, confrontation and rewarding desired behavior.

Core to this phase is understanding yourself, your drivers, your beliefs, your mission and your desires and goals.

The next phase is all about choosing your options.
